Feed Your Face: Relaxing Coconut Oil Face & Body Scrub

I'm a girly girl. I believe in the power of high heels, red lipstick and everything in between.

As some of you may know, I worked in the Cosmetic Industry for a while, as an assistant, then in product development and more recently in sales. After seeing the behind the scenes of how everything is made, and what people buy, you get a good idea of what's good and what's not; what's OK to buy generic and what's worth the spurge.

I'm not always the poster girl for taking care of my skin. For a long time I depended on youth, make up and charm to keep me looking refreshed and easy on the eye (or at least not like a haggard street urchin).

Then, 6 weeks ago, I turned 30.

It didn't help that I was having a shitty day, between the screaming child and the piles of clothes lying around the house and my muffin top having a muffin top of its own, I was a downright misery guts. When I walked past the a mirror in my hallway and  got a glimpse of myself, I HATED WHAT I SAW. Old pilling and sagging tights, unwashed hair and an over sized T-shirt, baby on one hip and laundry basket balanced on the other. When I got pregnant I vowed to be a Hot Mama, like the lovely Monique, but instead I looked like Rosanne Barr - circa ALL THE TIME.

We're really low on funds at the moment, so disposable income for a spa treatment was out of the question. And I'm even poorer in time.

Enter my relaxing sugar scrub!

I thought of this one night when I was thinking about DIY gifts for Christmas. But, alas, if there's anything I can do well, it's procrastinating. As I write this my calendar says it's December 31st. I missed the mark. Again.

But enough of that. I'm looking forward, and feeding my face! Well my skin at least. This scrub is good for face, hands, and body. If you want to use it for feet, you can do that too, but stay tuned... I'm coming up with another recipe for that! This is nice and moisturizing without that greasy feel. For those of you who are not used to a creamy cleanser (like me!) do not be afraid, it's lovely and you won't feel like an oil slick afterwards, I promise.

Relaxing Sugar Scrub

1 Tablespoon Organic Coconut Oil

1/2 Cup Superfine Sugar
10-15 drops of H Gillerman Organics Stress Remedy (or your favourite essential oils) *

Mix all ingredients in a bowl with a fork until the coconut oil is evenly distributed. It will be the lovely texture of fluffy snow, but not cold, obviously.

Transfer to an airtight container ( like a jar, a washed out lotion tub or even a zip lock bag).

To use just scoop about a teaspoon into your wet hands and apply to a wet clean face, rubbing in a circular motion. Avoiding the eye area.

Your skin will be as smooth as the nether regions on a Ken doll!

You're welcome.

It can be a little on the pricey side, but it really is worth it. If you don't fancy paying for the exorbitant price tag, use your favourite essential oils, just be careful and make sure it's safe for direct skin contact
